Tracfone’s $45 Unlimited Prepaid Wireless Plan and the Competition
By Chris M Mccarthy
Straight Talk Prepaid Plans Promise Big Savings.
Tracfone is well known for a few reasons. It’s well known because it is the largest prepaid wireless provider in the United States, boasting 12 million subscribers. It is also known for its very affordable prices and its frequent promotions for free minutes or other freebies the company gives away to promote its service and keep its current subscribers excited.
You have probably heard of the Tracfone promotional codes or “promo” codes the prepaid phone company often releases to the internet for people to use with their purchases. Usually, it is a buy a few minutes of talk time and get a few free. This can obviously work out to some good savings for you as a customer.
You may have also heard about Tracfone’s Double Minutes for Life. This is a cool additional feature you can purchase, or sometimes get for free with certain deals and promotions, and which does exactly what it’s name implies. When you buy a certain amount of talk time, you get the same amount free in addition to your purchase.
So if you buy 60 minutes, you get 60 minutes free. Now you have 120 minutes to use. The savings with DMFL can really add up and it last through the whole life of the phone you purchased the plan with.
Now, Tracfone has released two unlimited prepaid plans under the name Straight Talk. The first Straight Talk Unlimited Prepaid plan costs $45 and provides a subscriber with unlimited talk time and unlimited text messages for 30 days. That’s a pretty good deal.
Tracfone Straight Talk’s “Unlimited” Competition: Boost Mobile and MetroPCS.
This unlimited plan competes directly with the Boost Mobile Monthly Unlimited prepaid phone plan, which debuted earlier this year and resulted in some serious buzz. Industry insiders seemed to think that a price threshold had been crossed when it was revealed the new Boost Mobile prepaid plan would coast only $50–for unlimited talk time, text messaging, and data usage.
The data usage is particularly attractive to many young people, who make up a large part of the Boost Mobile subscriber network. Well, Boost may have crossed the threshold, but Tracfone with Straight Talk stuck a foot farther through the door, by charging less than the other wireless company.
Are we going to see a more intense price war between the unlimited wireless plan providers. MetroPCS has a $45 plan, Boost has its $50 plan, and Tracfone has its $45 unlimited plan.
Tracfone’s $30 Straight Talk Plan.
But Tracfone has one more plan that may quite possibly be the most competitive prepaid phone plan out there. The other Straight Talk plan is for 1,000 minutes of talk time, 1,000 text messages, and 30 MB of data usage–all for the very low price of $30.
This seems like an incredible deal for a plan that utilizes the vaunted Verizon wireless network. It’s true. The way it works is your pay the fee and get to use the phone for 30 days. When you’re time is up, you renew service or move on.
Only time will tell if this plan will last or will even be a huge success. Will the partnership between Tracfone and Verizon last? Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for certain, though. If you are looking for a prepaid cell phone plan, you may want to check out these plans from Tracfone, as well as competing ones from Boost and MetroPCS. It’s not a question of which plan is the best or most affordable on the market, it’s a question of which plan is the best one for you.

How Straight Talk Wireless Works
The Tracfone Straight Talk plans have been built to compete with post paid phone plans. A long term contract mobile phone plan will require you to sign a one year or two year long term contract to get service. Straight Talk Prepaid is prepaid which means that you pay for your service before you use it and if you use up your minutes or the time period expires you lose cell service. You will not get a end of contract fee and in order to restart service just as before you may purchase a Straight Talk Wireless Prepay cellphone card and reactivate your cellphone.
